St. Lawrence River.
Le Mondial SAQ, formerly known as the Montreal International Fireworks Competition, will be held June 21 to July 30, www.lemondialsaq.com, (514) 397-2000. Eight countries and Hong Kong compete on Saturdays and Wednesdays at 10 p.m., rain or shine. The Montreal International Jazz Festival, June 26 to July 6, www.montrealjazzfest.com, (514) 871-1881. For nearly two weeks the Place des Arts becomes the scene of daily and nightly free concerts. The Ray Charles Big Band, Bobby McFerrin, Norah Jones, the Wayne Shorter Quartet and the Dave Holland Big Band are some of the headliners. Ticket prices range from $10.50 to $60. Just for Laughs, July 10 to 20, www.hahaha.com, (514) 845-3155, is a showcase for comedic talent from around the world. There are free outdoor shows and street theater, plus indoor shows with tickets from $10.50 to $32. Rossini's "Italiana in Algeri," will be performed by L'Opéra de Montréal at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier-Place des Arts, 260 Boulevard de Maisonneuve West, (514) 985-2258, www.operademontreal.com, on May 31, June 5, 7, 11 and 14. Tickets: $39.50 to $110.50. On July 2, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, www.osm.ca, will perform Mozart's Overture to "La Clemenza di Tito" and Clarinet Concerto and Brahms's Symphony No. 3 at Notre-Dame Basilica, 110 Notre-Dame Street West, (514) 842-2925. The Montreal Botanical Garden, 4101 Sherbrooke East, (514) 872-1400, www2.ville.montreal.qc.ca/jardin/jardin.htm, is open all year, but its 30 thematic gardens are particularly glorious in summer.
